Summer Packets

Happy Summer!

We hope you have a great summer break by playing hard and keeping your academic skills sharp. Below you will find some helpful information as you enjoy your summer. We look forward to seeing all of you at the Back to School Bash on August 11! Click the buttons below to view important information.

School Supplies

Most supplies have been ordered for your child by the school and will be delivered to his/her classroom by Meet & Greet on August 11. A list of additional, miscellaneous supplies that must be provided by you (e.g., an art shirt for younger students, Bibles for 2nd-8th grade students) can be accessed HERE.

  • Your rising Kindergarten student’s “Lions on the Loose” required summer assignments are due to his/her teacher on Tuesday, August 11, when you come to campus for our Meet and Greet. Your child’s summer assignment includes summer reading.

    All rising Kindergarteners should read or be read to for at least 10 minutes per day or a minimum of 40 minutes per week, for a total required summer reading of at least 320 minutes. Please use the official St. Luke School Summer Reading Log and fill out each section with:

    The Summer Reading Log should be turned in to the Kindergarten teacher when you visit the classroom on Tuesday, August 11. There are so many great books available, but if you need some ideas, please refer to the list of Suggested Summer Reading put together by the Kindergarten teachers.

  • Your rising first grader’s “Lions on the Loose” required summer assignments are due to his/her teacher on August 11, when you come to campus for our Meet and Greet. Your child’s summer assignments include summer reading and a summer journal.

    Summer Reading

    All rising first graders should read or be read to for at least 10 minutes per day or a minimum of 40 minutes per week, for a total required summer reading of at least 320 minutes. Please use the official St. Luke School Summer Reading Log and fill out each section with:

    Summer Journal

    We want to hear about how you spent your summer! Record some of your favorite moments in your Summer Journal. Use the Summer Journal entry page that is found HERE. All journal entries should be stapled together when your child turns in their journal to their teacher. Rising first graders are required to have at least 6 journal entries and each entry should include:

    Date

    Words or phrases to go with each entry, written in the child’s own handwriting

    An illustration and/or memorabilia (e.g., movie or park tickets, photos, postcards, etc.)

    The Summer Journal should also be turned in to the first-grade teacher when you visit the classroom on Tuesday, August 11.

  • Your rising second grader’s “Lions on the Loose” required summer assignments are due to his/her teacher on Tuesday, August 11, when you come to campus for our Meet and Greet. Your child’s summer assignments include summer reading, a summer journal, and a math packet.

    Summer Math Packet

    All rising second graders are required to complete a grade-appropriate summer math packet over the summer. The rising second-grade math packet will be available in FACTS Family Portal beginning May 26. (Go to Family Portal | School Information | Resource Documents and select the correct grade level, i.e., the grade your child will be entering for the 2026-2027 school year.) These math concepts should be a review of grade-appropriate essential skills that were studied during the year and that the students should have mastered. Be sure to follow the directions in the packet and be prepared to turn in the completed work to the teacher when you visit the classroom on Tuesday, August 11. Students should complete all problems neatly and make sure all are completely labeled. Students will be tested over the material in the math packet during the first week of school.     All rising third graders are required to read the book, Vacation Under the Volcano by Mary Pope Osborne. Upon completion of the book, please complete the assignment found HERE. Please bring the completed assignment with you to Meet the Teacher on Tuesday, August 11. Third-grade teachers encourage your child to find other books that interest them and read over the summer!     Summer Reading and Language Arts IXL Skills

    All rising fourth-graders are required to read Tales of a Fourth-Grade Nothing by Judy Blume and write a summary of the book. Click here for an outline to plan the summary. The outline is to be completed before writing the summary on a lined sheet of paper. Both papers should be stapled together and turned in during the Meet and Greet on Tuesday, August 11, 2026. To help retain essential skills, students are assigned Language Arts IXL skills for review. Each student is expected to complete every skill with a Smart Score of at least 80, which indicates proficiency, by 12:00 noon on August 11, 2026.     Summer Math

    In preparation for another successful start to a new school year, your child is expected to review third-grade essential math skills by completing all lessons assigned to him/her in IXL.   • Your rising fifth-grader is expected to complete a reading assignment and a math assignment this summer.

    Summer Reading and Language Arts IXL Skills

    All rising fifth-graders are required to read Restart by Gordon Korman. Click HERE for directions and HERE for the assignment.

    This reading assignment is due at Meet and Greet on Tuesday, August 11.

    To help retain essential skills, students are assigned Language Arts IXL skills for review. Each student is expected to complete every skill with a Smart Score of at least 80, which indicates proficiency, by 12:00 noon on August 11, 2026. For instructions on how to log into IXL, please refer to the math assignment.

    Summer Reading and Language Arts IXL Skills

    • All rising sixth-graders are required to read one novel over the summer. The instructions are below.

    • Please choose one of the following books and then complete the Google form assignment found HERE. This is due by noon on Tuesday, August 11, 2026.

  • Your rising seventh-grader is expected to complete a reading assignment, Language Arts IXL skills, and a math assignment this summer.

    Summer Reading and Language Arts IXL Skills

    All rising seventh-graders are required to read Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie by Jordan Sonnenblick over the summer. You can find the assessment here. Please be advised that all answers should be authentically answered without the use of AI or other online sources. Some questions have two or three parts, and each answer is carefully reviewed to evaluate students’ individual abilities. The novel is discussed often at the start of the school year, and the sequel is read as a class novel, so it is imperative that each student is familiar with the summer reading. The reading assignment is due August 11, 2026, at noon.

    To help retain essential skills, students are assigned Language Arts IXL skills for review. Each student is expected to complete every skill with a Smart Score of at least 80, which indicates proficiency, by 12:00 noon on August 11, 2026. For instructions on how to log into IXL, please refer to the math assignment.

  • Your rising eighth-grader is expected to complete reading and math assignments this summer.

    • The reading assignment for rising eighth-graders will be from a book of their choosing. The following links will have the novel choices and the assignment details.
